We are actively exploring, appraising, developing and producing gas in the Mid West of Western Australia, and we are the operator of the Waitsia Gas Project, with two gas-producing facilities in the Mid West.
We are also exploring decarbonisation options, including carbon capture and storage technology, and carbon farming.
The Waitsia Gas Project is a joint venture with non-operator partner Beach Energy, providing significant opportunity in the Mid West Region.
In August 2014, appraisal drilling discovered the Waitsia Gas Field, a free-flowing reservoir situated on privately owned agricultural land. The Waitsia Gas Project has since been developed and has been rolled out in stages – Waitsia Stage 1 has been producing since 2016 and Waitsia Stage 2 will start producing in 2024 with construction well underway.
Xyris Production Facility - Waitsia Stage One
Stage 1 of the Waitsia Gas Project has been supplying gas to Western Australian customers since 2016 through the Xyris Production Facility.
In 2020, an expansion project refurbished the Xyris Production Facility and added a connection to the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline. Stage 1 has a maximum capacity of ~30 TJ a day and is currently supplying the Western Australian domestic market.
MEPAU is the non-operator joint venture partner (50%) with Beach Energy for Beharra Springs in the Perth Basin of WA.
The Beharra Springs Gas Processing Facility is a 25 TJ/day plant, processing gas from nearby wells and transporting it through the Parmelia Gas Pipeline to domestic customers in WA.
Mitsui E&P Australia is the non-operator joint venture partner (40%) with Woodside Energy for the Vincent, Greater Enfield and Enfield crude oil projects located ~45km off Western Australia’s North West Cape.
The Greater Enfield Development includes the offshore Laverda, Norton over Laverda and oil accumulations via a subsea tie-back to the Ngujima-Yin, a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility situated ~60km offshore from Exmouth, WA.
MEPAU is the non-operator joint venture partner (49%) with Westside for the Meridian Gas Project Permits, which are connected to both the Gladstone Liquefied natural Gas (GLNG) pipeline and the domestic market via the Queensland Gas Pipeline.
Located near Moura in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, the project delivered first gas in 1996. Since 2010, the project has been operated by Westside (51% interest holder). The project owns gas compression and pipeline infrastructure that delivers gas to both the GLNG project and the domestic gas market.

Kipper is a producing conventional gas field located 45km off the coast of Victoria in the Gippsland Basin. It produces gas, condensate and LPG for sale in the domestic Australian market.
MEPAU is the non-operator joint venture partner (50%) with Cooper energy for the Casino Gas Project, which includes the Casino, Henry and Netherby gas fields, located in the Victorian offshore Otway Basin around 250km south-west of Melbourne.
The Casino gas field commenced production in 2006 with the Henry and Netherby fields starting up in 2010. Raw gas from the project is currently transported by pipeline to Lochard Energy’s onshore gas processing facility, and from there it is supplied to the Victorian gas network.
