In areas of cultural significance, Heritage surveys may be required and Cultural Heritage Advisors may be engaged to monitor ground disturbing activities. Advisors are typically engaged before and during ground disturbing works (bulk earth works) to monitor activities and ensure impacts on heritage are minimised.  Mitsui E&P Australia also have a robust unanticipated discovery protocol for staff and contractors to preserve any artifacts discovered that may contain cultural significance.

Cultural Heritage Advisors are engaged through Traditional Owner representative corporations and are recognised as having the cultural authority to speak about heritage matters within the designated area.

Community

Delivering mutual and sustainable social outcomes for all

MEPAU recognises the importance of its role in delivering mutual and sustainable social outcomes for those communities in which we work. MEPAU invests in community projects so that local people can benefit from social and economic development, and MEPAU continues to look for opportunities to create positive impacts. These investments are sometimes voluntary and sometimes required by governments, or part of a contractual agreement.
